We improve people’s lives by empowering organizations with technology

OmboriGrid (publ) AB is part of Ombori Group, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. The company specializes in creating technology that creates seamless customer journeys encompassing both the physical and online worlds, using IoT, mobile apps, and in-store installations.

Our flagship product, Ombori Grid, is a platform that enables businesses to digitally transform into smart stores, smart offices, smart hospitals, smart cities, and more. It is used all over the world, by many different types of organizations, including retailers, municipalities, theme parks, hotels, resorts, and airports.

Our story

Ombori Group was founded by serial entrepreneur Andreas Hassellöf in 2010. Hassellöf founded his first software company at the age of just 17, and has worked in numerous fields including fintech, cybersecurity, mobile development, and retail.

OmboriGrid (formerly known as Ombori Apps) grew out of a project called PresenceKit, which was designed to facilitate rapid creation of mobile apps and integrate them with existing data structures.

Early clients included Nordic fashion houses such as House of Dagmar, WhyRed and Caliroots. This generated coverage in Vogue in 2018, which drew worldwide attention.

This led to the creation of OmboriGrid’s first IoT project, the “Selfie Mirror” in H&M’s flagship Manhattan store.

Developed in partnership with Microsoft and fellow Swedish designers Visual Art, this was a voice-activated in-store installation that allowed visitors to take photos of themselves and integrate them with virtual branded backgrounds.

The selfie mirror was singled out by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in his keynote speech at Envision in 2018 as an example of retail innovation.

Following the success of the selfie mirror, OmboriGrid began to diversify into more innovative retail technology, with installations for Clas Ohlson and Telenor in Sweden, Max Fashion in the prestigious Ibn-Battuta Mall in Dubai, and the Target flagship store in Melbourne’s Central Business District. This led to the creation of the underlying platform which unifies all its apps, Ombori Grid.

In 2019, leading European consumer experience solution provider for retailers ITAB Shop Concept AB acquired a 30% investment in the company.

In 2020, OmboriGrid took a further investment of SEK60m from a consortium of professional investors. This enabled the company to respond rapidly to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the decline in physical shopping.

Throughout 2020, the company focused on virtual queuing, appointment booking, and occupancy control solutions, allowing customers to visit safely and businesses to ensure compliance with frequently changing regulations. The company broadened its client base, finding new markets in hospitality, leisure, and municipalities, among others.
